Why My Heart Goes Boom exists

Drumming has been a part of my life for over forty years. It all began when I was about twelve or thirteen, and my parents surprised me with a second hand drum kit for Christmas. That moment lit a fire in me that has never went out.

I’m not claiming to be a great drummer and I’m definitely not claiming to be a teacher. In fact, I’m largely self taught and have never had formal drum lessons. But I know what it’s like to be just starting out, full of excitement but also overwhelmed by gear choices and lesson formats. That’s exactly why I created this blog.

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot through experience, trial and error, and sheer passion. I’m the guy tapping on desks at work, drumming along in my head with my headphones on, and much to my family’s dismay, using cutlery as drumsticks at the dinner table. Drumming is simply part of who I am.

I know that drumming can feel expensive and overwhelming when you’re just starting out. With so many brands, kits, and lessons out there, it’s hard to know what’s actually worth your money.

That’s why I created My Heart Goes Boom, to make drumming accessible, affordable, and fun for everyone – David Briggs.
